The Dust and Respiratory Health Forum is accepting abstract submissions for the first time in 2026.

Abstracts are invited for oral presentations, short presentations and posters. Selected poster presenters may also be invited to deliver a short flash presentation as part of the Forum program.

The Forum welcomes submissions from researchers, industry, regulators, occupational hygienists, health professionals, students, workers' representatives and technology providers working across dust, airborne contaminants and respiratory health.

Presentation formats

Authors may nominate their preferred presentation format. The organising committee will determine the final format based on program space, relevance to the Forum audience, program balance and abstract quality.

Standard oral presentation

Standard oral presentations are intended for mature research findings, major industry case studies, regulatory updates or work of broad relevance to the Forum audience. Indicative format: 25 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A.

Short oral presentation

Short oral presentations are suitable for emerging findings, practical case studies, pilot work, early-stage research, implementation lessons or focused updates. Indicative format: 10 minutes presentation + brief Q&A.

Poster presentation

Posters provide an opportunity to share research, applied projects, practical initiatives, case studies, student work or emerging ideas in a discussion-based format. Posters will be displayed during the Forum, with dedicated time for poster viewing and discussion.

Poster flash presentation

Selected poster presenters may be invited to deliver a short 5-minute flash presentation to introduce their work and encourage discussion during the poster session. Poster flash presentations will be limited to a small number of presenters and will not replace the poster session.

Suggested topics

Submissions may address any area relevant to dust, airborne contaminants and respiratory health, including but not limited to:

  • Respirable crystalline silica and changing exposure standards
  • Mine dust lung disease and occupational respiratory disease
  • Dust exposure monitoring and assessment
  • Real-time monitoring and emerging technologies
  • Dust control and prevention strategies
  • Health surveillance, diagnosis and clinical care
  • Return to work, rehabilitation and long-term worker support
  • Regulation, compliance and policy
  • Engineered stone, mining, quarrying, tunnelling, construction and other dust-generating industries
  • Mineralogy, particle characterisation and analytical methods
  • Diesel particulate matter and mixed airborne exposures
  • Worker engagement, education and training
  • Case studies from industry practice
  • Research translation and implementation

Abstract requirements

Abstracts should be concise and written for a broad Forum audience.

Please include:

  • Abstract title
  • Author names and affiliations
  • Presenting author details
  • Preferred presentation format
  • Topic area
  • Abstract text, maximum 300 words
  • Short presenter biography, maximum 50 words
  • Disclosure of any commercial interest, sponsorship or potential conflict of interest

  • The issue, question or problem being addressed
  • The method, approach or experience being presented
  • The key findings, lessons or implications
  • Why the work is relevant to the Forum audience

Review process

Abstracts will be reviewed by the organising committee.

Selection will consider:

  • Relevance to the Dust and Respiratory Health Forum audience
  • Practical, scientific, regulatory or health significance
  • Clarity and quality of the abstract
  • Timeliness and contribution to current discussion
  • Program balance across sectors, topics and presentation types

The committee may offer a different presentation format from the one nominated by the author.

Commercial content

Submissions from technology providers, consultants and industry partners are welcome where they provide clear value to the Forum audience.

Abstracts should focus on evidence, practical learnings, case studies, implementation experience or demonstrated outcomes rather than direct product promotion.

Attendance requirement

Accepted presenters must register for and attend the Forum in person.

The Forum will be recorded, but presentations and poster discussions will take place in person at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
