CWiMI Colombian Summer School

8 Jul 2014

Last month, Neil McIntyre and Natasha Danoucaras from CWiMI presented a two week Summer School on ‘Water in Mining’ to approximately 30 students, mainly in environmental and civil engineering. The event was hosted by Los Andes University in Bogota and co-funded by IM4DC. The objective of the course was to equip the students with the principles of the sustainable use of water in mining. Other partners were Diana Arbelaez-Ruiz from CSRM and Oscar Jaime Restrepo from  the Mines faculty of Colombia’s Nacional University. The first week of the course was lecture based and in the second week, the students worked in teams to create a Water Management Plan for a fictitious mine giving them an opportunity to apply their learning.
