Strong industry engagement for UQ Bowtie Facilitation Course ahead of August delivery
The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute continues to see strong engagement in its Bowtie Facilitation Course, with the next delivery scheduled for August at the St Lucia campus.
In May 2026, Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre (MISHC) brought together a diverse group of professionals from across the resources sector, creating a highly collaborative learning environment focused on practical risk management.
Facilitators noted the group’s willingness to engage from the outset, with participants actively contributing and supporting one another throughout the program, while also engaging in meaningful and challenging discussions with respect. This collaborative approach is a key feature of the course and reflects the realities of risk facilitation in industry.
Practical skills in bowtie risk analysis
Delivered over three days, the course combines technical knowledge with facilitation practice. Participants take part in structured exercises covering:
• bowtie risk analysis
• identification of controls and critical controls
• development of performance specifications
• facilitation of risk workshops
Each participant has the opportunity to lead elements of a bowtie session, building confidence in both technical application and group facilitation.
