SMI Introduction to Risk Assessment for staff and students

Understanding risk management and assessments is key to maintaining a workplace that is safe for everyone. To this end, the Sustainable Minerals Institute will be hosting a number of Risk Assessment courses for staff and students.

SMI Introduction to Risk Assessment

This course is delivered by Ben Seligmann and Tyson Cronin and will provide attendees with both a practical and theoretical understanding of many of the principles and procedures behind risk management. By the end of the course you will: 

  • Appreciate the benefits of thorough and efficient risk management practices
  • Have an improved understanding of task-based risk asssessments, their practice and outcomes
  • Be able to use UQSafe to help you perform and record task-based risk assessments
  • Better understand informal, ‘stop and think’ risk assessments that can be done on-the-fly and developed into useful habits

All courses run from 8am  - 12.30pm in the SMI level 4 Seminar room at St Lucia or in the Lecture theatre at Indooroopilly. Attendees should bring: a short description of an activity for which you need to prepare a risk assessment; laptop and pen and paper; morning tea, water etc

Ben and Tyson are working towards creating an online/zoom version of the course for those who work outside of Brisbane, at ICE Chile and those who would prefer not to attend a face to face session. Staff will be notified when this version is available
