The Achieving Environmental Effectiveness Masterclass shares the latest research and best practice in these areas and is organised into three sections.

Section 1: Legal Accountabilities outlining personal and corporate obligations imposed on leaders and their mine sites. There is a vast amount of legislation that may directly or indirectly impact your mine site.

Section 2: Voluntary Obligations including the most relevant voluntary commitments to international and national schemes, and stakeholder expectations with respect to the mining industry’s environmental performance.

Section 3: Approaches and Tools to assist managers to organise and lead their teams to fulfil their environmental obligations. This section lays out components that are essential to achieve sound governance in environmental management: having skilled teams, technical support on hand and a reliable system for tracking compliance. We also provide practical suggestions to assist you in moving beyond compliance so that the teams can be doing what they must do as well as what they should do.

This course is designed for Queensland leaders as it outlines accountabilities under the Queensland legislation. Accountabilities will be different in other jurisdictions.

 

About Health, Safety and Environmental Performance Masterclass Series

Designed to provide leaders in the mining industry with up to date, evidence based, advice on additional steps they can take to improve outcomes in mine site health, safety, and environmental performance.

Each Masterclass will consist of approximately 3 hours of online learning - including a webinar hosted by an expert panel from across The University of Queensland.  
 
As well as sharing latest research and providing practical guidance, the panel will be available to answer your questions about the specific challenges you face in your workplace.  

The Masterclass Series will be of interest to mine site leaders working across all areas and at all stages of their careers. They can be taken as individual courses; or combined to complete the full Series.

The Series has been developed by Susan Johnston, who leads the Governance and Leadership Program at the University’s Sustainable Minerals Institute. Susan works closely with industry focusing on mining industry governance, the psychology of leadership, and the organisational hallmarks of high reliability.
