Michelle Rowland is the Technical and Administration Officer for the Sustainable Minerals Institutes (SMI), Transformational Learning team. Michelle provides high level administrative and technical support to the team, while maintaining relationships with stakeholders within SMI's Centres and liaise with other professional support services acrossthe Institute and The University of Queensland.

Previously Michelle has been the Centre Administration Officer for the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM) and the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre (MISHC). Michelle provides high-level administrative and executive support to both Centres, and the SMI more broadly.

Michelle joined the SMI in 2014 as CSRM’s Administration Officer. Since then she has proven to be a valuable asset in administration, communication and event co-ordination.

In 2016 and again in 2021, Michelle was the winner of a scholarship through the University of Queensland's Professionals Network.  

Michelle also provides secretariat support to the Rio Tinto - CSRM Partnership Steering Committee. As well as Center Advisory Boards and SMI's Research Committee.

Previous to her current position at The University of Queensland, Michelle worked as an Office Manager for a small company SSE Specialised Stage Engineering Pty Ltd. She has extensive experience in administration, reception and customer service and has completed several accounting courses (MYOB, XERO).

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and English from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Film and Television Studies from the Queensland University of Technology.
