Mike is a mining engineer and Manager with over 40 years’ experience to a General Manager level in all phases of mining from feasibility, construction and development, production and expansion through to mine closures. Mike has extensive experience in leading project and operational teams to deliver safely on production goals for both Underground and Open Pit operations, including project manager lead and owner’s representative in capital projects, operations expansion and new project feasibility and development through to successful mine closure of two mine sites.

Mike has been a member of The University of Queensland’s SMI's Environmental Centres Advisory Board for over 10 years and in his second term as chair of the Mining Rehabilitation Fund Advisory panel of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety of WA.

Mike has established his own company providing operational management, engineering, peer review and environmental and mine engineering and mine closure advice and project management to many mining companies including Newmont, BMA Coal, AngloGold Ashanti, MMG Century Zinc, Cliffs Asia Pacific, First Quantum Minerals, Mt Gibson Iron, BC Iron, Kimberley Diamond, Goldfields St Ives, Anglo America, South32, Flinders Power and BHPB NiWest.

Tasks have included peer review, assessment, engineering, and risk assessments for many projects including coal and metaliferous mines in Qld and WA, assessment and review of closure plans, development of closure cost liability provisions and life of mine closure cost estimates against internal standards, and international financial reporting requirements and development and assessment of closure implementation strategies including task planning and QAQC strategies.

In addition, Mike has provided guidance, advice, and support to several HSEC and Engineering consultant organisations including Enthalpy, MWH Global, USSA, Xstract Mining Engineering Group, Calibre Group, Downer EDI, Preston Consulting, EHS Support and Outback Ecology Services.
