Speaker:  Tom Paterson, Principal Consultant, Cabo Services

Abstract:  Despite the high uncertainties in many stages of the minerals business, there are systematic things you can do to support better decision-making and communication about your portfolio and your projects.

Bio:  Tom Paterson is a geologist with wide experience in exploration, advanced projects, business development and strategy.  After graduating from The University of Queensland, Tom joined BHP and worked in northern Australia for 6 years, at Cannington Ag-Pb-Zn deposit, then in greenfield base metals exploration. He worked at the Agua Rica porphyry Cu-Mo-Au deposit in Argentina then in global metallurgical coal and iron ore programs. Tom then spent 4 years in Brazil as program manager for Americas Iron Ore before joining Anglo American as Head of Geology and Business Development Manager for Ferrous Division. Back in Australia he was Business Development and Strategy manager for Steelmaking Coal. He later served as Global Lead for Mineral Endowment and Generative within Group Geosciences.  Tom is now an independent consultant, working in a range of areas including geoscience technology, exploration and safety.

Welcome to the 2024 Series of the JKMRC Friday Seminars.  The list of presentations will aim to cover a range of topics related to the minerals sector from decision making in exploration, new mineral processing technologies, social licence to operate and mine closure.
