Dan Wood was the 2012 Distinguished Lecturer for the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG), Denver, Colorado in the USA. During the year the following lectures were presented "Crucial Challenges to Discovery and Mining - Tomorrow's deeper Ore Bodies." The lecture was given at the following venues: Colorado School of Mines, US Geological Survey in Washington DC, the Southern California section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) in the USA, the following universities in Australia - University of New England, James Cook University, University of Tasmania, Monash University and University of Western Australia, and the SEG chapter in Dublin, Ireland.
A further lecture titled "Discovery Challenges with Deeper Ore Bodies" was given as an invited Keynote Address at the SEG 2012 Conference in Lima, Peru and at the 46th Brazilian Geological Congress in Santos, Brazil, the project management group of Gold Fields in Perth, WA and the University of Papua New Guinea.
