Natasha Danoucaras recently attended the SDIMI (Sustainable Development in the Mining Industry) 2013 conference in Milos Island, Greece. The conference had 180 attendees, predominantly from the European industrial mining sector and the academic sector. Natasha spoke on the Water Accounting Framework and compared its water reporting with the reports obtained by the Global Reporting Initiative and the Water Footprint Network. She quantitatively illustrated with a case study, problems with the Global Reporting Initiative’s definitions. The ability of the framework to provide the water footprint due to mining was well received. The talk was an opportunity to showcase the Water Accounting Framework to an international audience.
