Professor Longbin Huang recognised for outstanding red-mud rehabilitation collaboration with Rio Tinto

The Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation's Professor Longbin Huang, Rio Tinto and Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) have been recognised for collaborative research into technologies that could turn bauxite residue, or ‘red mud’, into soil capable of growing plants.

The team were awarded the 2019 Partners in Research Excellence Awards for producing promising results while working closely with employees at the Yarwun and QAL refineries in Gladstone and Gove in the Northern Territory as part of a partnership that stretches back to 2017.
