Lead investigator: Dr Francisco Reyes
Project duration: 12 months
Grant amount: AUD $286,000

Summary
Using the Mill Filling Inference Tool (Mill FIT) we developed at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC), we can bring our expertise to the industry’s coal washing processes. We will use mathematical models to infer operational characteristics that are not practical to directly measure, so advanced control and optimisation can be achieved.
Impact
This Project will be an integral part of the research work currently being undertaken at The University of Queensland Sustainable Mineral Institute’s Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC). The focus is on developing soft sensors that integrate semi-fundamental models with operational data, predicting operational parameters that are not practical to measure directly. The Mill Filling Inference Tool (Mill FIT) is a soft sensor developed by JKMRC to provide total, ball and slurry filling of SAG mills and that is being successfully implemented in several mining operations over the past three years. We believe we can bring the know-how learned from Mill FIT to the coal industry, starting with Dense Medium Cyclones.
