SMI Higher Degree by Research Conference 2017

Every year, the SMI hosts a one-day conference where current Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students present their work. The aim of the conference is to provide students with the opportunity to hone their presentation skills and interact with industry professionals.

All HDR students with an interest in any facet of the resource environment, from geology to land rehabilitation and community engagement, are invited to attend.

Conference highlights include:

  • Multi-format presentations
  • Industry guest panel discussion
  • Food, drinks and a goody bag
  • Prizes for the best presentations
  • A cocktail party to end the evening!
  • A courtesy bus will be provided.

This year's theme is Innovation and Sustainability in the Resource Environment. Student presentations will be given in a new number of different formats that allows students to best highlight the aims / outcomes of their research, and promotes informal discussions and engagement on their work. Additionally, a panel discussion will answer questions from the audience that focus on the theme question How can researchers and industry work together for better innovative and sustainable practice in the environmental, social, safety and production aspects of the resource sector?"

Keynote speakers and discussion panellists will be invited from a range of disciplines across industry and academia. There will also be exciting prizes to be won for exceptional presentations. Additionally, there will be a cocktail party held after the main conference event to give attendees the chance to chat about their presentations and meet new people.

Further details and updates will be provided in the lead up to the event, so add this event to your calender and keep your eyes peeled for emails about this year's conference.
