Speaker:  Emeritus Professor Malcolm Powell, Owner and Chief Technical Officer, UQ; Liner Design Services;  Comminution Reimagined; CTTI and Geopyora

Abstract:  In this presentation, the audience will be challenged with a vision of future value in a transformed mining industry. Springboarding off the patterns and linkages that Malcolm has been patiently building, we will gather the disparate shiny sequins of ideas that may build the comprehensive vision and associated research needs for our future industry. This should be entertaining and interactive, so bring a headful of ideas. You are encouraged to wear sequined apparel, while leaving pre-conceived notions behind.

Bio: Malcolm Powell has applied fundamental comminution research to design and process improvement on over 60 mines worldwide, during 35 years at Mintek, UCT, and then as Professor of comminution at the JKMRC in Australia. His work is published in over 200 papers and conference proceedings. Malcolm founded the Global Comminution Collaborative (GCC) supporting the research vision of integrated total process simulation as a tool for innovation. He is currently applying advanced modelling techniques and knowledge of fracture to the development of new highly energy-efficient processes. The integration of these into flexible processing of the future, targets enhanced production while lowering environmental impact.
