SMI-ICE-Chile: how the Sustainable Minerals Institute is working towards greater resource use efficiency, value creation and environmental rehabilitation in Latin America
Speaker: Dr Doug Aitken, General Manager, SMI-ICE-Chile
Abstract: SMI-ICE-Chile is developing R&D lines and projects across diverse topics to address critical industrial and social challenges in Latin America and is looking to establish itself as a platform for researchers at UQ and partner institutions to create positive impact through collaborative research.
Bio: Doug Aitken is the General Manager of SMI-ICE-Chile and contributes to many of the centre’s research and development projects. He is a civil and environmental engineer with a PhD in sustainable bioenergy pathways. His main areas of research are in sustainable water supply systems, mine waste management and local socio-economic development.
As the General Manager of SMI-ICE-Chile, Doug's aim is to help facilitate the greatest possible positive impact to society through the centre, together with colleagues and partners in Chile, Australia and elsewhere.

Welcome to the 2022 Series of the JKMRC Friday Seminars. The list of presentations will aim to cover a range of topics related to the minerals sector from decision making in exploration, new mineral processing technologies, social licence to operate and mine closure.
