Speaker: Professor Wenying Liu

Abstract: The industrial use of heap leaching for copper extraction from secondary sulphides and new developments in chalcopyrite heap leaching.

Bio: Dr. Liu is Associate Professor in the Hydrometallurgy group in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her research focuses on developing aqueous processes for critical metals extraction from ore and mine waste. Having completed her PhD at University of Queensland, Australia, in 2013, she joined UBC in 2015, first as Postdoctoral Fellow and later faculty member. She has worked with multiple industry partners to develop technologies for copper extraction from low-grade ores and waste by heap leaching; non-cyanide-based processes for gold extraction; iodine-assisted coper extraction from chalcopyrite; arsenic stabilization; management of contaminant release from mine waste.
