Speaker:  Dr Mahdiyeh Razeghi, Lecturer, University of Southern Queensland

Abstract:  This seminar will aim to convey the transformative potential of satellite earth observation in understanding and managing water resources. This technology not only provides valuable insights into surface water and groundwater dynamics but also offers practical applications for industries like mining, particularly in areas of rehabilitation and groundwater assessment. There are tools available to enhance the management of water resources and contribute to more sustainable practices.

Bio:  Maddy Razeghi holds bachelor's and master's degrees in geomatics and completed her PhD in satellite geodesy in 2020 at Newcastle University, focusing on Australian water resources studies. She later joined the Research School of Earth Science at the Australian National University (ANU) for a joint project with Geoscience Australia, evaluating the Great Artesian Basin groundwater. Subsequently, Maddy served as a research fellow at ANU's Institute of Water Futures, introducing a novel approach using remote sensing to study aquifer change and underground water resources. Currently, Maddy is a Lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland, School of Surveying and Built Environment.
