Speaker:  Dr Lulit Habte Ekubatsion, Research Fellow, Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre

Abstract:  This seminar will discuss the convergence technology of three main field of studies: climate change mitigation, heavy metal stabilisation and solid waste management by conducting stabilisation of heavy metals in aqueous solutions through accelerated carbonation using waste shells as a catalyst. This work provides a solution for the climate change by using CO2, reduce solid waste by valorisation and the treatment of toxic heavy metals. Integrating different field of studies is not common practice in most of the works that have been done before. Insights will be provided on how to integrate different fields of studies in one work.

Bio:  Lulit Habte holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Addis Ababa Institute of Science and Technology, Ethiopia. She enriched her teaching experience at the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology and further advanced her study to Master of Science in Water Supply and Environmental Engineering at the same University. Lulit then moved to South Korea in 2018 to start her PhD at the University of Science and Technology. She obtained her PhD in Resources Recycling in 2021 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Minerals (KIGAM) in South Korea for 2 years. Currently, Lulit is working at the Sustainable Minerals Institute's Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) as a research fellow.
