A World Class Regolith - Hosted Heavy Rare Earth and Scandium Discovery above the North Stanmore Alkaline Intrusion, Western Australia
Speaker: Ken Collerson
Abstract: The key to discovery success is lateral thinking – as Roy Woodall said “seeing what others have seen but thinking what no one has thought before”. This seminar will explore this theme in greater detail.
Bio: Ken Collerson is an Emeritus Professor at The University of Queensland and former Head of Earth Sciences. He is an internationally recognised geologist/geochemist with technical expertise focussing on discovery of critical mineral (REEY-Sc-W-Co) and alkaline Au-Cu porphyry systems. Ken is a specialist on regolith-hosted REE systems. As technical director for Victory Metals, he facilitated discovery of the North Stanmore HREE and scandium rich regolith deposit in W.A. As R&D Director of Transition Resources Ken postulated a new metallogenic model for the Cloncurry region that allowed discovery of previously unrecognised Cu-Co-Au porphyry and Au-REE-W epithermal mineralisation, a new mineral system in the NWMP.
