Speaker: Professor Nick Cook

Abstract: The transition from rocks formed during the Paleoproterozoic Great Oxidation Event to the widespread carbonaceous facies is a potential trap for many metals, and this talk describes the reasons for the >200Ma age difference between the gold and cobalt mineralisation in Finland.

Bio: Nick Cook commenced his geological journey at the University of Otago in New Zealand before moving to teach and complete a part-time PhD at the University of New England in Armidale, NSW. An industry exploration career in eastern Australia followed with time living in Broken Hill, Parkes and Brisbane. Following a non-geological interlude, Nick then worked as a consultant in Australia, southern Africa and Europe, with his time mostly occupied in northern Finland as the technical lead on the discovery of the Rajapalot gold-cobalt resource. He moved to SMI in October 2022.
