Unreported Carbon Emissions from Deforestation at Mine Sites
Speaker: Dr Evelyn Mervine
Abstract: The presentation will address unreported Scope 1 carbon emissions from deforestation at mine sites. It will focus on the scale of these emissions at nickel mine sites, while also commenting on the importance of tracking these emissions at other types of mine sites.
Bio: Dr Evelyn Mervine is a geoscientist and carbon management expert. She has extensive experience working in the mining industry in Australia, North America, South America, and Africa. Evelyn currently works as a Carbon Mitigation Principal at Anglo American and is also an Adjunct Fellow in the School of the Environment at The University of Queensland. She has a BA degree in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College, an MSc degree in Carbon Management from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in Marine Geology that was jointly awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
