Mining geoscience research to support mine safety and environmental sustainability

Abstract: New technologies and methods for mining geoscience are yet to be developed, and can have significant impact for improved mine safety and environmental sustainability.
Bio: Marc leads the Mine Safety & Environment Research Group in the Sustainable Mining Technologies Research Programme within the CSIRO Mineral Resources Research Unit. The group develops world class solutions for the industry in the areas of Mining Geoscience & Geomechanics, Environmental Sustainability & Emissions reduction, and Mine Safety.
Marc's research focusses on development of monitoring and modelling technologies to support mining, aerospace and other industries. Specific applications include measurement and metrology for geotechnical engineering, slope monitoring, robotics and manufacturing qa/qc. Several of these patented technologies have been commercialised or are being trialled in mining, aerospace and other industrial settings, including the International Space Station.
