This seminar will provide an overview of Australian research and innovation strategies and Korean policy on research and innovation, and research commercialisation focusing on activities between CRCs and KBRC at Korea University. It may also provide a good opportunity to enhance research collaboration between Australian and Korean universities.

Over the last 5 years, Associate Professor Longbin Huang has developed a close research collaboration with Professor Yong Sik Ok, Director Korea Biochar Research Center, Korea University. Longbin and his student co-authored 4 papers with Professor Ok’s group, one of which has become top 1% most cited papers in the field of environmental chemistry. As one of the highlights of this collaboration and academic exchange, Associate Professor Longbin Huang has recently (July 1 2018) accepted his appointment as an invited professor in the the Division of Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, Korea University, Seoul, Korea.

As a part of the academic exchange, Professor Ok will visit SMI and present research seminars on 7-9 August 2018, with the purpose to foster more collaborations and exchanges with SMI-colleagues.


Presenter: Professor Yong Sik Ok

Professor Ok is Director of the Korea Biochar Research Center and one of the top researchers in functional carbon materials in the world, for environmental remediation. He has published over 500 research papers, 30 of which were ranked as ESI top papers (nominated as "Highly Cited Papers" and "Hot Papers"). Professor Ok maintains a worldwide professional network through his service as an Associate Editor for Environmental Pollution and Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, and as a Member of the Editorial Boards of Chemosphere, Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis and several other international scientific journals.
