The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) is co-hosting a two-day conference with MinErAL, PacSen, CNRT on 22-23 August 2023.

This seminar provides the opportunity to present the results of research carried out by the different research networks and organizations involved, and brings together researchers from Australia, Canada and New Caledonia who are working on mining issues.

The seminar will comprise presentations across 4 themes:

  • Society and mining
  • Water and ecosystems through the mine life
  • Energy transition and critical minerals
  • Mining and governance.

There will also be panel sessions on mining encounters; as seen through the eyes of international networks; between academics, industry, Indigenous communities and local governance organisations; as seen through the eyes of social scientists and natural/environmental scientists; and around planetary issues (energy transition, global warming, ‘green nickel’, etc).
