Sand is one of the most mined materials on the planet and a critical part of most modern construction, and research underway at UQ is investigating whether a new type of sand made from unused materials at mine sites could be a more sustainable alternative
Supported by an AEA Seed grant, Dr Juliana Segura-Salazar is leading a team from SMI and UQ's School of Civil Engineering, in partnership with a Newmont Corporation and Aurecon, to test whether Ore-sand has the functional properties necessary for use in construction.
