
Dantong Meng is a PhD candidate at The University of Queensland. She received her master’s degree in Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology from Northeastern University, China, where her research focused on remote sensing-based ecological and environmental assessment of mining areas by integrating satellite imagery, field-based observations, and geospatial analysis.
Her previous research examined ecological disturbance, land-surface change, and rehabilitation assessment in mining and arid-region landscapes. This work contributed to remote sensing-based methods for characterising environmental impacts, evaluating recovery processes, and identifying mining-related spatial features across broad spatial and temporal scales. Dantong's research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2024 and the International Congress for Mine Surveying 2023.
Her current PhD research investigates the use of multi-source Earth observation data to evaluate ecosystem recovery and rehabilitation performance in post-mining landscapes. Dantong's work draws on imaging spectroscopy, LiDAR-derived structural information, UAV observations, and geospatial artificial intelligence to link spectral, structural, and spatial evidence with ecosystem condition and recovery trajectories. Her broader research interests include Earth observation for environmental change, mine rehabilitation and closure, ecosystem restoration assessment, and geospatial artificial intelligence.
