Steve Mcintosh is an internationally recognised figure in the mining industry, with a global career spanning more than 30 years at Rio Tinto.

Steve has been involved in the discovery, evaluation and/or development of multiple major projects across a diverse range of commodities.

Steve joined Rio Tinto as an exploration geophysicist in 1987 and led the exploration team from 2011 to 2016, joining the executive committee in 2016. As group executive of growth and innovation and health, safety, environment and security, Steve had the direct accountability for staff and contractors in more than 30 countries covering most of Rio Tinto's global technical functions including exploration, studies, construction, technical services, information technology, data science, robotics and automation, R&D, asset closure. He also led the global health, safety, environment and security function for a year. In the growth and innovation role, Steve was accountable for more than 3,500 staff and core contractors, alongside an average of 6,000 construction and 3rd party contractors each year. Steve has been the most public member of Rio's senior leadership team, regularly giving interviews and speaking at industry events.

Steve holds a Masters of Science (Geology & Physics), is a Fellow of both the Society of Economic Geologists and the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
