Shazia is a PhD student at CSRM, as part of the University of Queensland-IIT Delhi Academy of Research (UQIDAR). Her PhD project is examining the idea of just transitions in India.

Her research applies a mix of qualitative and quantitative approaches to study the social, political and economic impacts of coal phase out at the local and state (provincial) levels in India’s coal belt. Her advisors include Vigya Sharma (CSRM) and Rohit Chandra (IIT Delhi).

Shazia has a master’s degree in Economics with distinction from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, and a bachelor’s in Economics Hons with subsidiary specialisation in Mathematics and Statistics from Aligarh Muslim University, India. Having grown up in and around Jharkhand, a key coal mining region, Shazia’s thinking on India’s just transitions is shaped by her lived experience and understanding of the wider coal landscape.
