Carlos is a Research Assistant at the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM) at the University of Queensland. He is currently working on an applied research project investigating challenges to coal transition in Australia.

In October 2022, he will begin his PhD project at CSRM. His project aims to understand Community Energy initiatives in Australia, their role and potential in the country’s energy transition. Drawing on overseas perspectives and successful case studies, the project would identify enablers and barriers to inform improved emerging community energy initiatives.  

Originally from Colombia, Carlos holds a Master of Sustainable Energy and Management from the University of Queensland and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering from the Universidad El Bosque, Bogotá. He has experience working in the areas of sustainability, community engagement, carbon footprint, and decarbonisation.
