Shuoyang Liu is a PhD candidate researching green ironmaking, with a focus on the reduction behaviour, fragmentation mechanisms, and softening-melting behaviour of iron ore during hydrogen-based reduction. This work aims to advance sustainable steel production methods by replacing traditional carbon-intensive processes with hydrogen reduction. He is supervised by Dr. Xiaodong Ma (JKMRC), Helen Tang (JKMRC), Professor Geoff Wang (UQ Chemical Engineering School) and Professor Tom Rufford(UQ Chemical Engineering School).

Shuoyang holds a Master of Materials Science and Engineering from The University of New South Wales (Australia), and a bachelor’s degree in Material Science and Engineering from Sichuan University (China).
