Fatihu Sadiq is a PhD Candidate at the Centre for Environmental Responsibility in Mining at the Sustainable Minerals Institute. 

Fatihu is a researcher and academic specialising in soil science and environmental sustainability, with expertise in sustainable land management, soil evaluation, mine rehabilitation, and geospatial modelling. His doctoral research focuses on assessing the performance of mine waste cover systems in semi-arid environments, with the objective of developing practical, cost-effective, and climate-resilient solutions for mine closure and rehabilitation.

Prior to commencing his PhD, Fatihu served as a researcher and lecturer at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Nigeria, and was also involved in research activities at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.

Through his work, he seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and industry practice, contributing to the advancement of robust, sustainable, and performance-based mine closure systems that promote environmental protection and long-term land stewardship.
