Renzo Mori Junior combines his academic experience with over 10 years’ of professional experience in corporate social responsibility and sustainability. At CSRM he is undertaking applied research to investigate the potential role sustainability certification schemes can play to improve standards for responsible mining. This applied research will review the design characteristics of proposed and existing certification schemes to develop practical resources and recommendations for how certification can better work to improve environmental and social outcomes. 

Before joining the CSRM, Renzo worked as a consultant at Deloitte helping clients to manage corporate responsibility and sustainability issues for a wide range of organisations including: Vale, Santander bank, Petrobras, CSN, BHP, Yamana, CEMIG, Samarco, Unilever, Accor Group, and Nestle. His main activities included environmental and social risk assessment and audits, development of sustainability business plans for city councils, assurance and development of sustainability reports including materiality tests and stakeholder engagement strategies, development and monitoring of sustainability indicators; assessment of environmental and social risks in project finance transactions, sustainable supply chain, and assurance and implementation of standards systems and frameworks that focus on sustainability performance (GRI ,Equator Principles, SA8000, AA1000, ISO 14001, ISO26001, Millennium Development Goals, and Global Compact).

Renzo has a business and environmental science background. He holds a post-graduate degree in environmental management (University of São Paulo (USP - Brazil) and masters degree in environmental sciences (Institute of Technological Research (USP/ IPT – Brazil). His PhD research at the Australian Centre for Sustainable Business, University of Southern Queensland explored the role of trust in sustainability reporting and assurance processes. He has lectured in corporate social responsibility and sustainability at the University of Southern Queensland and collaborated with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for the Sustainability Reporting Awards in 2010.

Renzo has conducted qualitative and quantitative research on topics including:  economic, environmental and social impacts, risk-based evaluation of environmental management systems, GRI sustainability reporting, assurance of sustainability reports, and stakeholder expectations.
