Dr Charlie Sartain is a mining engineer with 40 years’ experience in the mining industry, initially in engineering roles at Mount Isa Mines then in various mine management and international senior executive roles in the gold and base metals industries, and more recently as a non-executive director on various corporate boards. He worked for MIM Holdings Ltd for 20 years and then with Xstrata plc for 10 years until mid 2013, including 9 years as CEO of Xstrata Copper, Xstrata’s largest global business unit with operations and projects spanning eight countries.

Over the past decade Charlie has taken on various governance roles with listed companies and not-for-profit organisations. He is currently a non-executive Director of ASX-listed companies ALS Limited and OZ Minerals Limited, and was formerly a non-executive director of major international gold producers Goldcorp Inc. and Newmont Corp. He is a director and Board Chairman of Wesley Medical Research Limited and is Chairman of the Sustainable Minerals Institute’s Advisory Board at The University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and received an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from the University of Queensland in 2019.
