David's research focuses on transport in porous media, particular with application to soil and groundwater hydrology and contamination.

I have been an academic in Civil Engineering at The University of Queensland since 1994. Since 2008 I have been the Chair and Professor of Hydrology and Water Resources. Over the last 20 years I have undertaken a number of senior research management positions: Research Program Leader for the Sustainable Tourism CRC (2000-2007), Head of the Environmental  Engineering Division (UQ), and Research Management Committee member and Research Program Leader for the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (2009-2015).

I have also held editorial roles on two major journals in the area of hydrology and water resources  research: Water Resources Research (2007-2012); Advances in Water Resources (1997). I chaired the Scientific Committee, and was a member of the Organising Committee, for the 40th Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (2014).
