Jean-Pierre's research interest in on the design of initiatives aiming for continuous improvement of sustainability performance.

In his PhD project, Jean-Pierre analyses how diverse sustainability initiatives employ tools and mechanisms to drive performance as well as how businesses understand and experience sustainability performance in their operations.

Jean-Pierre joined CSRM in July 2016 as a PhD student and will contribute with his research to our projects on effectiveness of sustainability certification schemes in the mining sector.

In his earlier career, Jean-Pierre made two major experiences from which he derives practical knowledge for this research field: From 2013 to 2015, he worked as an advisor in Mongolia as part of GIZ’s Integrated Mineral Resource Initiative. Subjects he worked on cover mineral resource-dependent, socio-economic development, multi-stakeholder dialogues for community development, CSR, quality management, human resource management as well as on trust in society as a development factor. In his advisory role to the Corporate Governance Development Center, he planned and inaugurated with his counterpart, IFC and government bodies the first annual report competition of Mongolia.

From 2010 to 2012, Jean-Pierre worked at Intertek, a major testing, inspection, and certification company. He supervised a team in conducting product conformity programmes, which encompassed technical documentation management throughout supply chains as per requirements of customs of countries in Africa and the Middle East. Post study internships led him earlier to Zambia and Kenya.

Jean-Pierre holds a master’s degree in political science, economics, and history as well as a postgraduate certificate in sustainable development cooperation from the universities of Stuttgart and Kaiserslautern respectively. He is fluent in German and English, has good command of French, Portuguese, and Italian as well as basic knowledge of Mongolian.

Jean-Pierre is currently undertaking his PhD under the supervision of Dr Kathryn Sturman, Dr Renzo Mori Junior.
