Workshopping for future research collaboration

The multi-disciplinary meeting introduced SMI researchers to technical, planning, operations and research teams from Magotteaux and Mount Isa Mines to talk mining, metallurgy and geology in the hopes of uncovering mutually-beneficial research opportunities.

Knowledge sharing was the talk of the town, with experts from each party presenting on a range of topics covering the geology of the ore body, pulp chemistry and reagents review, flotation and regrind circuit review as well as grinding media trial results.

Workers on the frontline of Mount Isa Mines’ operations brought an operational perspective to the sessions through a series of presentations on high level mine plans and operational challenges.

JKMRC Senior Research Fellow and Separation Program team member Dr Liza Forbes said “The workshop created the opportunity to form relationships between all the participants that will further support future collaborative work.”
