This year’s SMI Networking Night was held on Thursday 14 June 2018. More than 30 UQ students attended from all SMI Centres, the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering, and the School of Civil Engineering. Additionally, more than ten SMI and UQ staff members attended.
This year, there were 17 industry guests representing Aurecon, Ausenco, the AusIMM, BHP, D4G, the DNRM/Simtars, Glencore, Hatch, Mining3, SolGod, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering.
A “Speed Networking” session kicked off the event with students meeting industry guests in four rounds of 15 minutes each. Based on feedback from previous events, this year saw the introduction of the one minute “Elevator Pitch” given by the student attendees (timed with sand timers) and a collection of prompt questions for each table.
At the conclusion of the “Speed Networking” session, students and industry guests mingled over drinks and canapés. A good time was had by all!
