Kieren Moffat is the CEO and Co-Founder of Reflexivity, a CSIRO spin-out company helping mining companies and communities develop deeper levels of trust in their relationships. He led a program of research in CSIRO for 11 years on what it means to hold a social licence to operate, developing data-driven approaches to understanding this critical area of risk for mining companies.

A decade of research on the nature of relationships between communities and the mining companies that work alongside them, has demonstrated that community acceptance, or social licence, depends on deeper trust in their relationships.  From this research, at local and national scales, from data collected around the world, the pathways to deeper trust and acceptance are clear. This presentation will lay out these pathways, the evidence for the efficacy of applying a data driven approach to social licence, and the challenges that companies face in the application of this knowledge.
