About Future of Sustainable Resource Extraction: Research Showcase and Facility Tour

Discover how UQ research is shaping the future of sustainable mining and mineral processing at this showcase and guided facility tour – part of UQ’s Research and Innovation Week 2026. 

You will gain first-hand insight into world-leading research at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) and the WH Bryan Mining and Geology Research Centre (BRC) at the UQ Experimental Mine Site. The program includes an introductory presentation followed by guided tours of laboratories and pilot-scale facilities, offering an opportunity to meet researchers and students and learn about the cutting-edge technologies in development.  

Whether your interests lie in critical minerals, sustainable resource recovery, digital technologies or industrial innovation, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore how UQ is addressing key challenges facing the mining sector.

Tour sessions and transport 

Guided tours run at the following times: 

  • 9:20am – 10:40am 
  • 11:20am – 12:40pm 
  • 1:20pm – 2:40pm 

Transport will be available to and from the Indooroopilly campus, departing from St Lucia. The mini bus will leave from the Sir James Foots Building 47A, corner of Staff House Road and College Road at: 

  • 9:05am 
  • 11:05am 
  • 1:05pm 

Participants may also make their own way to the venue if preferred. Please note, parking at the mine site is limited but there is on street parking available on Goldieslie Road and Kate Street. - see map for information and directions

Places are limited to 15 participants per session, and registration is essential

  • Selected digital technologies and research showcases
