About The WMC2023 Scholarship

Established in 2023, as an outcome of the World Mining Congress 2023, held in Brisbane.

The WMC2023 organising committee sought a sustained impact and legacy from the Congress through the establishment of an award to support teaching and research purposes at UQ and align with the Queensland Government’s goal to break down personal, financial and geographical barriers facing students aspiring to study at UQ.

Recommending authority

The Dean of the Graduate School on the recommendation of the Director, Sustainable Minerals Institute.

Eligibility

The scholarship is available to postgraduate students (HDR/ Masters) studying at The University of Queensland in a field related to responsible mining and mineral resources development, who have a clear need for financial support (the donor has allowed flexibility to include undergraduates as eligible, as necessary).

Students in receipt of this scholarship should not be in receipt of any other top up scholarships.

Basis for scholarship

Selections are based on academic achievement and field of study, the applicant’s demonstrated plan for using the award to enhance their skills, and the anticipated impact of the award on their development, particularly in the context of financial need or disadvantage. Preference is given to students from low socio-economic backgrounds, regional Australia, or international cohorts.
