Dee Bradshaw Travel Scholarship
About the Dee Bradshaw Travel Scholarship
Established in 2018 in memory of Professor Dee Bradshaw and maintained by donations from her friends and work colleagues from The University of Queensland. The purpose of the scholarship is to enable meritorious postgraduate students to travel to an approved international institution to develop their research capabilities and experience within the minerals sector.
The award will be announced at an event on 15 November 2024.

Higher Degree by Research, Travel Scholarship
Eligibility
The scholarship is open to Higher Degree by Research candidates from any enrolling unit at The University of Queensland within the minerals sector, with a relevant thesis topic, who have passed their first progress review milestone.
Selection Process
Applicants will be ranked on the basis of:
- academic achievement and potential for scholastic success.
- the significance and relevance of the international travel to the applicant’s research and/or professional development in the minerals sector.
- any other matters the selection committee sees fit to the applicant’s future development.
Tenure
The scholarship may be held for the period of travel, up to a maximum of one year.
Value
The value of the scholarship is a minimum of $5,000. However, the value of the scholarship shall not exceed the disbursements available from the fund. The Dean of the UQ Graduate School may determine the number of scholarships to be awarded with regard to the availability of disbursements from the fund.
Conditions
If the Scholarship is awarded to a recipient on the basis of an international opportunity that does not eventuate, any scholarship funds awarded must be returned within 30 days of a request by the University.

About Professor Dee Bradshaw
Dee Bradshaw obtained her PhD in 1997 in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and worked there until 2007 when she took a sabbatical. During this time she spent a period at the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), and enjoyed it so much she stayed until 2015.
Dee was passionate about inspiring, nurturing, challenging, creating opportunities, guiding and mentoring countless students. In 2013 she received an award from The University of Queensland for excellence in post graduate supervision, which recognised her as a leader who nurtured and developed her graduate students. To celebrate this passion SMI staff established a travel scholarship in her name.
