In an exciting first for UQ, SMI's Global Leadership Series event is in partnership with the ABC for subsequent broadcast.  UQ's Professor Peter Greste will guide a panel discussion with input from key experts in the audience, to unpack the complexities of a sustainable future in a society dependent on minerals.

Developed by SMI in collaboration with the School of Communication and Arts and the ABC, this event aims to take mining out of the political arena and facilitate a national conversation about the role of the sector in Australia's sustainable future.

The project is being produced over a five week period, and details of the panellists will be announced as they are confirmed.

We hope you can join us as part of the studio audience at UQ's St Lucia campus for this unique and exciting GLS event - visit the GLS website

About Minerals, materials and a sustainable future

The products of mining are everywhere. If it wasn’t grown, it was mined or drilled. Now that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are mainstream, and a renewable energy transformation fuelled by minerals is well underway, is it time to reconsider the role that mining and minerals play in sustainable development?
