The 9th Australian Acid and Metalliferous Drainage (AMD) workshop presented by the Sustainable Minerals Institute the Australian partner of the International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP), was held in Burnie, Tasmania last week.

The inaugural UQ Mining and Resources Forum was held on Thursday 16 November. It was fantastic to have contributions from UQ’s Executive, the Faculty of Business Economics and Law; the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology; the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; the Faculty of Science and the Sustainable Minerals Institute.

Carmel Bofinger attended the 2017 Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development at the Palais des Nations in Geneva in October. Government representatives from 22 nations shared real-world experiences and insights during the sessions

The first Sponsor’ Review Meeting (SRM) of AMIRA International’s P9Q-Modelling and Simulation Project was held on 22-23 of August 2017 in Brisbane at The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI).

SMI through the Minerals and Energy for Development Alliance  (MEfDA) partnership with  University of Western Australia (UWA) has been commissioned byDepartment of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to support mining sector governance in Niger from 2017 to 2018.

Professor Robin Burgess-Limerick was a keynote speaker at the second Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) Symposium.

SMI and CSRM are proud to lead  the DFAT flagship program: Australia Awards Africa Short Course for 9th time since 2011.

The 10th International Congress for Applied Mineralogy was held in Trondheim from 1 – 5th August, also marking the 30 year history of ICAM. The previous meeting had been held in Brisbane in Sept 2008 and was an unprecedented success with over 200 people attending and some exciting and controversial papers.
