The inaugural UQ Mining and Resources Forum was held on Thursday 16 November. It was fantastic to have contributions from UQ’s Executive, the Faculty of Business Economics and Law; the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology; the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; the Faculty of Science and the Sustainable Minerals Institute.
As UQ continues to place itself at the centre of global and local challenges in the resources sector, we are partnering with industry leaders around the world to drive the shift towards sustainable development and more equitable outcomes for communities affected by mineral resource extraction. UQ offers access to world-class industry-facing researchers in the social, political, environmental, and earth sciences – disciplines that will shape the future of mining.
The purpose of the UQ Mining and Resources Forum was to enable the key complementary research capacity within UQ to connect, thereby improving communication and coordination across the University. Professor Neville Plint, Director of the Sustainable Minerals Institute and Professor Simon Biggs, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology invited all UQ academics to participate in the forum by providing a 5-minute overview of how their research and other engagement activities touched the sector.
There were over 35 speakers on the day and the presentations were informative and succinct. Mr Charlie Sartain, UQ Senator and SMI Advisory Board Chair, closed the forum congratulating participants on their game-changing research, the openness of knowledge transfer and willingness to work collaboratively in the spirit of OneUQ.
The full speakers list was made up of the following. If their presentation is not included, please feel free to contact them directly to discuss. (Click on the to download)
