Improving the governance of natural resources will be the focus for five new Higher Degree Research students recently recruited by the Sustainable Minerals Institute’s Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining.

Building international connections, sharing knowledge and informing mine closure governance were the key outcomes from an Indigenous Exchange Forum that brought together 40 First Nations representatives and affiliated researchers from Australia, Canada and Aotearoa (NZ) who have major mines on their lands.

Over 40 First Nations representatives from Australia, Canada and Aotearoa (NZ) have participated in an Indigenous Exchange Forum - the culmination of 12 months of collaborative research with First Nations groups whose customary lands have been impacted by mining.

Dr Jo-Anne Everingham is a familiar name to many working in the mining industry. Since joining the Sustainable Minerals Institute’s (SMI) Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM) in 2010, Jo-Anne has indefatigably supported those on the margins of society, particularly in regional Australia, through insightful research that has earnt her the respect of her colleagues, industry and government.
