    Webinar: A Cooperative Research Centre for Transformations in Mining Economies: So what?

    In March 2020 the Federal Government announced a new $130 million Cooperative Research Centre on Transformations in Mining Economies (CRC TiME). The University of Queensland, through the Sustainable Minerals Institute, led the development of this cooperative research centre in partnership with The University of Western Australia.
    This presentation will outline: the basic components of CRC TiME; the game changing value proposition which positions the mining industry as an agent of regional development; and the unique partnership that has drawn in mining companies, technology and service suppliers, state and local governments and groups representative of regional and community interests.

    Melissa started as the Sustainable Minerals Institute's (SMI) Deputy Director of Operations (DDO) in January 2016, following a six year stint as Operations Manager at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation. As DDO, Melissa has been central to the successful management of the Institute's operations, including finance and human resource management, information technology systems and support, facilities and workplace health and safety, research portfolio support, marketing and communications, and intellectual property management.

In her current position, Trish assists SMI researchers navigate their interactions with external partners, ranging from industry to government departments.

    Since joining the Sustainable Minerals Institute’s (SMI) W.H.Bryan Mining & Geology Research Centre, Dr Anita Parbhakar-Fox has made her mark on the local Geometallurgy and Applied Geochemistry scene. Driven by a zeal for mine waste management, Anita is working closely with mining industry, METS sector and government stakeholders to achieve real change in the space.

    Two researchers from The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) have been recognised by the state government in this year’s round of Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowships.
    Dr Elizaveta Forbes and Dr Fang You were among 22 UQ researchers who received Fellowships for original research, in collaboration with leading industry partners.

    UQ Researcher Dr Sarah Holcombe recently addressed international stakeholders at the UN to share findings from her pioneering project to translate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) into an indigenous Australian language.
